Chris Noel - 1966

Chris Noel Starred in Soldier In the Rain (a particularly great movie) with Steve McQueen and Girl Happy with Elvis Presley.  In the 1965 she started her show with AFRTS.  She went to Vietnam, braved sniper fire and survived a helicopter crash.  She shared those shows with us.  Thank you Chris!

Today she still helps the troops with the Vetsville Ceasefire House, a home for homeless veterans.

Charlie Tuna - 1983

Charlie Tuna with Del Shannon

25 years anywhere is an amazing accomplishment.  In a lot of ways Charlie Tuna was the voice of AFRTS.  We miss you Charlie.  Here are some memories of 1983. Be sure to check in at his website, http://www.charlietuna.com

Joe Allison - 1965

1965 was an interesting time in Country music.  Before that "hillbilly" music was a lot more folky.  Ray Price, Jim Reeves it got a lot slicker.  Our friend Joe Allison is back with another Country Corner.

The war was raging over most of Asia and Europe.  AFRS was there to help with spiritual needs.  "Hymns From Home" was one our first religious programs.

Andy Mansfield - 1967

I'm pretty excited about this, we're getting a bunch of Turn Back the Clock that I've never heard before.

Andy Mansfield played those oldies from the turn of the century to the mid 20th century for over two decades, from Turn Back the Clock to America's Popular music.  Today is a 1967 visit..

Spectrum USA - Franklin Roosevelt 1971

It's the Presidents Day weekend.  In 1971 the USMC Reserves did shows about the men who've led our country.  Today Dick Stark has information on FDR.  Thanks John for making these available!

General McArthur reports to Congress 4/19/51.

The Korean war was raging and General Douglas McArthur sums up a lot of things in this address.

Roger Carroll - 1967

Roger enlisted during the Korean War and ended up at the network as an announcer.  Perfect place as he was an ABC network announcer.  Shortly after the war he was doing the Roger Carroll Show until well into the early 80s.  Super talent and a great guy.  Let's remember 1967

AFN Earl Freudenberg 1973 - Town and Country

Thom, I sent you a clip of the famous tones that played every hour at 59:54.  Here is a picture of the clock that produced those famous tones. The clock was said to be one of the most accurate in the world.   Earl

It's zero-dark-thirty and time to check in with Earl for "Town and Country"

Love that picture.  Here's LaRita.  Matt recorded these in England from about 600 miles away.  It's a bit noisy but a bunch of fun.

Chris Noel 1969

Chris Noel brought home to GIs all over the world.  She helped then, and she helps now running a shelter for our less fortunate brothers.  In 1969, she rocked AFRTS.

Clevelandaires - 1951

A while back I received a shipping case of disks from the Korean War.  A Chaplain had posted them to a different chaplain in theater.  The Clevelandaires I had never heard about.  NBC had run their show in 1950-51.  When they were being copied Travis wanted to know if they were from the 1930s....

Mary Helen Barro - 1981

Here's Mary Helen Barro with another program of latin favorites
